Dr. Baiocchi has more than 20 years of experience in providing mentorship and career guidance to trainees at all stages of development, ranging from high school through faculty.
Since joining the faculty at Ohio State University in 2005, Dr. Baiocchi has remained consistently committed to the mentorship and career development of young scientists, physicians and physician-scientists who are inspired to pursue careers in basic, translational or clinical cancer research. His dedication to education and training the next generation of physician scientists is exemplified by leadership positions in the Department of Internal Medicine and at the national level.
Additionally, he is the founding director of the Physician Scientists Training Program (PSTP) in the Department of Internal Medicine and is serving his second term on the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine’s (AAIM) Research Group. This group consists of 15 national leaders of the PSTP community with the mission to work with the NIH, AAMC and AAIM to enhance the growth and diversification of the physician scientist workforce in the United States.
Dr. Baiocchi also serves as the associate division director for Mentorship and Faculty Development in the Division of Hematology where he directs mentorship and career development for 58 assistant and associate professor faculty members and 24 hematology oncology fellows.
Further, Dr. Baiocchi was chosen to lead the Colleges’ Physician Scientist Development Program where he directs physician scientist recruitment, training and mentorship in 23 Departments. He has provided mentorship to medical students (ASH 15 Minority Medical Student Program, 4 HONORS) and post doctoral (ASH Post Doctoral) trainees in the American Society of Hematology’s Minority Recruitment Initiative. He also established the West STEM program, which partners with the OSUCCC CAMELOT Creates Program to provide opportunities in STEM education to West High School students, a Columbus city school serving a diverse student population with backgrounds that are underrepresented in medicine (URM).
