The Kalady Lab team at the OSUCCC – James, led by nationally and internationally recognized cancer research specialist and Principal Investigator Matthew Kalady, MD, FACS, FASCRS, focuses on the genetic and molecular mechanisms that lead to colorectal cancer development as well as its resistance to treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation.
Specifically, the research specialists in the Kalady Lab study various aspects of the tumor and tumor microenvironment that contribute to treatment resistance, including genetic variations, metabolic changes and the microbiome.
Treating the complete patient involves understanding the individual’s entire health background, their tumor biology and any relevant health factors so the cancer specialists and subspecialists at the OSUCCC – James can customize a sophisticated, targeted treatment regimen that is specific for each patient.
Mission
At the OSUCCC – James, the Kalady Lab team’s research mission is to unravel the science that leads to the discovery and development of more effective treatments for colorectal cancer.
The team’s expertise and research efforts have led to the identification and development of biomarkers that are associated with colorectal cancer detection and prognostic biomarkers that are related to treatment response and overall survival.
