Who We Are
Throughout his career, colorectal cancer surgeon Matthew Kalady, MD, has worked to treat patients with colorectal cancer and to understand not only on a genetic and molecular level, but also a personal, life-quality level, the impact of that cancer on his patients as well as their families.
Dr. Kalady and his team are inspired daily by the potential to impact patients’ lives positively and to provide an even better way to cure their cancer.
The Kalady Lab has been supported by R01 grants from the National Cancer Institute as well as multiple foundations and society grants, including:
- American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons
- Society of Surgical Oncology
- The Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract
Collaboration with Other Ohio State Labs and Research Teams
The Kalady Lab regularly collaborates with teams at other institutions as well as those within The James. By collaborating with scientists who complement the team’s strengths, skills and expertise, the team sees multiple paths forward to success.
Their collaborations include those with the OSUCCC – James Cancer Biology and Genetics Program, where nationally and internationally recognized cancer researchers conduct research in basic and applied microbiology, immunology and genetics to understand the mechanisms of disease initiation and progression as well as to understand the mechanisms involved in controlling disease processes.
Additionally, the lab collaborates with various OSUCCC – James scientists from other research teams who share unique perspectives and novel techniques, and who offer new approaches to understanding and analyzing colorectal cancer. Collaborative researchers include:
- Steven Clinton, MD, PhD
- Nicholas Denko, MD, PhD
- Eric Miller, MD, PhD
- Blake Peterson, PhD
- Dan Spakowicz, PhD
- Meng Wu, PhD
