Peterson Lab

Our Research Team

Learn about the team of experts conducting research at the OSUCCC – James Peterson Lab, led by world-renowned cancer researcher and principal investigator Blake R. Peterson, PhD.

Dr. Peterson is professor and chair of the Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy at The Ohio State University. He is a co-leader for the Translational Therapeutics Program at the OSUCCC – James and co-director of the Medicinal Chemistry Shared Resource, which provides medicinal chemistry support to investigators at the OSUCCC – James and to other academic and commercial institutions.

Additionally, Dr. Peterson works closely with the Drug Development Institute to accelerate innovative research that speeds cures to patients with cancer. By prioritizing investments in promising drug and device development, the goal is to close the translational development gap between discoveries in the research lab and the conversion of those discoveries into drug therapies for patients.

Dr. Peterson has authored and co-authored articles in numerous scientific journals, including Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie and ACS Chemical Biology, to name a few.

Collaboration With Other Ohio State Laboratories and Research Teams

The nationally and internationally recognized Peterson Lab research experts strongly believe in promoting and embracing intellectual curiosity and a willingness to take risks, since, as Dr. Peterson says, so many discoveries come from pushing the envelope scientifically. Because of this, the Peterson Lab team looks for motivated, curious individuals who express an interest in learning new skills and developing novel ideas.

When evaluating collaborative opportunities, the Peterson Lab looks for complementary expertise and disease-specific knowledge. The lab welcomes opportunities to collaborate on novel drug targets or pathways that might be amenable to inhibition with small molecules.

Dr. Peterson and his team of researchers also welcome the opportunity to share their expertise and offer a unique take on a clinical problem that has the potential to be solved using small molecules or the chemical tools that the Peterson Lab can design and develop.
