Dr. Pitter is a radiation oncologist and physician scientist interested in cancer biology, intratumoral heterogeneity and radiation resistance. He is an expert in translational therapeutics and specializes in treating patients with gastrointestinal cancers, including esophageal cancer, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer and liver cancer.
His training in radiation oncology has established a broad knowledge of the natural history and clinical paradigms of multiple cancers, as well as has provided a deep insight into unmet needs that must be the focus of ongoing translational research.
Dr. Pitter’s goal with his research is to develop a better understanding of essential processes in cancer biology to develop novel treatment strategies. Dr. Pitter also serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the OSUCCC – James.

Dr. Pitter and his team look for collaborators that are believers in team science. The Pitter Lab researchers have extensive experience in genetically engineered cancer murine models, cancer stem cells and radiation biology, and they are looking for collaborators with similar or synergistic interests.
When looking for research partners in the lab, the team is most interested in self-motivated, inherently curious candidates with excellent organizational and communication skills. While prior lab experience is valued, it is not essential. Enthusiasm and the ability to learn new lab skills, however, are required.
