The Sehgal Lab

The Sehgal Lab research scientists' mission and long-term goal is to understand the cellular origin of mantle cell lymphoma and the heterogenic tumor population that contributes to distinct outcomes in response to drug treatment.

The Sehgal Lab

The Sehgal Lab team at the OSUCCC – James, led by cancer research expert and Principal Investigator Lalit Sehgal, PhD, MPhil, is part of the lymphoma translational group and focuses on studying the pathobiology of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).

MCL is characterized by translocation T(11; 14), leading to an overexpression of the oncogene cyclin-D1 and contributing to deregulated cell-cycle processes.

The research team's main objective is to understand the distinct signaling mechanism of oncogenic MCL. By doing so, they can identify novel therapeutic targets and provide preclinical rationale that can lead to mechanism-based clinical trials, ultimately improving the outcomes for patients with MCL.

Mission

At the OSUCCC – James, the Sehgal Lab research scientists' mission and long-term goal is to understand the cellular origin of mantle cell lymphoma and the heterogenic tumor population that contributes to distinct outcomes in response to drug treatment.

Current Research & Studies

The nationally and internationally recognized research experts in the Sehgal Lab are currently focused on three main research projects:

  1. Understanding the pro-survival signaling mechanism in mantle cell lymphoma
  2. Developing models to mimic the pathobiology of MCL
  3. Understanding the involvement of the tumor microenvironment in the pathophysiology of MCL

Who We Are

Led by translational scientist and research expert Lalit Sehgal, PhD, MPhil, the Sehgal Lab scientists explore and develop strategies to create personalized therapy for patients with lymphoid malignancies.

Dr. Sehgal, who is also a member of the OSUCCC – James Leukemia and Hematologic Malignancies Research Program, has additional research in indolent and aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas and multiple myeloma. His work has been published in numerous hematologic journals, including:

  • Blood
  • Journal of Hematology and Oncology
  • Leukemia
  • Hematologica
  • Blood Advances
  • British Journal of Hematology
  • Oncogene
  • Journal of Cell Science
  • Molecular Cancer Research

Additionally, he has presented his research at more than a dozen national and international conferences and has received multiple awards, including the Endowed Fellow Award for Excellence in Lymphoma.
