The MSR is a full-service resource — from extensive sample preparation laboratories to image-processing tools — allowing OSUCCC investigators to carry out their entire microscopy and analysis program at Ohio State.
Through the MSR, OSUCCC investigators gain access to one of the largest concentrations of light, electron and ion beam microscopy instruments in any North American institution. The MSR pools resources to provide timely, high-quality services that support OSUCCC investigators with instrumentation, expertise and training on various microscopy approaches. These approaches include detecting viruses; leveraging advancements in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to visualize the structure of cancer proteins or biomolecules at near-atomic resolution; the examination of nanostructures for drug delivery with transmission electron microscopy (TEM); conducting live cell imaging in response to different treatments; and reconstructing tumor models in three dimensions using confocal microscopy (CM), super resolution structured illumination microscopy (SIM), total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy (TIRF-M) and stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (STORM). We also have the potential to follow dynamic events, such as the movement of immune cells in tumors of living animals, using multiphoton microscopy.
Consultation and support on subjects ranging from experimental design, troubleshooting and data analysis are available, as well as training tailored to OSUCCC investigators' needs on all microscope systems. Processing and analysis software for image presentation and publication is also readily available.
The MSR plays an essential role in allowing cancer investigators to translate fundamental studies of cancer biology into new treatments.
MSR’s Goals
The MSR’s primary goal is to offer OSUCCC investigators a full-service, expertly designed environment to execute their entire microscopy and analysis program — from extensive sample preparation to image-processing tools and support. Our objectives are:
- To collaborate with OSUCCC investigators in the planning and execution of projects
- To offer world-class instrumentation that pushes the frontiers of cancer research
- To provide access to highly skilled support staff
- To foster an educational environment that advances the teaching and practice of advanced microscopy
Contact MSR
The MSR provides access to two premier imaging sites at The Ohio State University: the Campus Microscopy & Imaging Facility (CMIF) and the Center for Electron Microscopy and Analysis (CEMAS).
OSUCCC investigators can connect with either site for additional information or to begin a project. They can also contact CCC_Microscopy@osu.edu.
The ability to offer competitive pricing and exceptional service can be largely attributed to the generous support of outstanding institutional resources, including partnerships with the OSUCCC, Office of Research, College of Engineering, and state and federal grants.
Help Me Decide
Based on the capabilities that your sample(s) require, one or both of the MSR sites may be needed. To determine which site, please complete this questionnaire or use the decision tree below.
