We are committed to providing opportunities for The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) nurses to further their education, hone their professional practice skills, advance their careers and contribute to the nursing profession beyond our campus through conference attendance, presentations and scholarly work.
Tuition Reimbursement
As part of a large academic medical center, OSUCCC – James nurses have the opportunity to access ongoing education at Ohio State through our employee tuition reimbursement program. Nurses with appointments of 75% FTE and greater may enroll for up to ten credit hours of coursework per academic term.
Web-Based Education
James nurses have access to a large number of internal programs offered in a variety of learning formats, including online and classroom settings. The online classes can be accessed by our nurses from any computer, including from home. Web-based education is used for a variety of educational purposes such as nursing orientation, annual and ongoing competencies, continuing education offerings and individualized learning needs.
Professional Nursing Certification
James nurses pursuing this professional achievement are supported by the organization through on-site and online review courses. These free courses aim to provide attendees with the knowledge necessary for successful attainment of a variety of certifications, including Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN).
Participation in Local, Regional, National and International Conferences
It is clear that nursing practice and patient care will continue to evolve through the sharing of evidence-based practice. We seek to maximize opportunities for our nurses at all levels to attend and present at local, regional and national conferences.
Professional Development Ladders
The OSUCCC – James offers three separate professional development ladder programs to promote professional nursing practice of staff/clinic nurses, patient care resource managers (PCRM) and advanced practice professionals.
