Patient Stories

Half a century of expert hematology care

In 1975, a Hemophilia Treatment Center was launched with the help of a grant from the Ohio Department of Health. Now called the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Treatment Center, this center spans across multiple disciplines. We’ve successfully expanded upon this groundbreaking, personalized approach to treating people with blood disorders, like hemophilia and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP).

Highly regarded studies have found that people with blood disorders who receive treatment from dedicated treatment centers generally have lower mortality rates, less hospitalizations, fewer absences from school or work and lower health care costs.

Innovation in sickle cell anemia care

Ohio State is home to some of the nation’s foremost experts in sickle cell anemia. We’re helping to develop some of the most advanced treatments to improve the lives of those with this disease — and in some cases even curing it with gene therapies or a bone marrow transplant.

Our sickle cell anemia specialists will help you manage your symptoms and prevent complications. We’ll work with you to enroll you in one of the sophisticated clinical trials our researchers are overseeing.
