Introduction to the Science of Cancer

Introduction to the Science of Cancer (ISOC) is a free, noncredit, online course offered by The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) in conjunction with Ohio State’s Office of Distance Education and eLearning.

The course is designed for those who have a limited knowledge of science but who want a better understanding of cancer. We believe it can also be useful to teachers, social workers, community health workers, medical writers and editors, and to health care professionals who have limited background in the field of cancer.

ISOC has five modules:

  • What Is Cancer?
  • Diagnosis of Cancer
  • Treatment of Cancer
  • Prevention of Cancer
  • Cancer Research

Course content includes downloadable slides and readings, and supplemental information. The course is organized so that earlier videos and readings provide information that will help you better understand later topics.

The OSUCCC – James also offers ISOC for use in schools and other venues. To learn more, send an email to TeachingISOC@osumc.edu.

(ISOC is also available through iTunes, where it is best viewed on Apple devices.)
