COLUMBUS, Ohio – In observance of National Lung Cancer Awareness Month (November), Breath of Hope Ohio and The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) invite patients with lung cancer and their caregivers to attend a free, in-person educational event on Saturday, Nov. 5, to learn about lung cancer treatment options, symptom management and nutrition. The event will take place at the Safari Golf Club Event Center, 4850 Powell Road, in Powell, Ohio. Complimentary lunch and refreshments will be available to attendees who RSVP by Wednesday, Oct. 26. Guests will have the opportunity to ask questions directly to local physicians who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment and management of lung cancer, and to interact in small groups with physicians and other attendees. “With improvements in lung cancer detection techniques and patient compliance with screening, we are able to detect lung cancer earlier, when it is much more treatable, and new treatment modalities like immunotherapy offer new hope for many advanced-stage lung cancer patients,” says Dr. Jasleen Pannu, event co-organizer and pulmonologist specializing in lung cancer at the OSUCCC – James and the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. Event organizers say they want people diagnosed with lung cancer to know there is hope, and the OSUCCC – James team is here to help guide individuals in treatment choices, as well as help them thrive beyond their diagnosis into survivorship. “We are focused on the whole patient. This includes helping each patient maintain and build strength needed to complete treatment and continue to live a strong quality of life after their diagnosis,” said Dr. Carolyn Presley, co-event organizer and lung medical oncologist with the OSUCCC – James. Event registration To RSVP to the event, email Katherine.Hughes@osumc.edu. More information about lung cancer treatment and research at the OSUCCC – James can be found at cancer.osu.edu/lungcancer.
