COLUMBUS, Ohio – Families in need of extra support with food and gifts for their children are invited to attend Healthy Family Fun Day on Wednesday, Dec. 8. Holiday food boxes, health education, COVID-19 vaccinations and flu vaccines will be available on-site to attendees on a first-come, first served basis. Families who participate in a health education game or presentation will be eligible to shop in the holiday gift shop, which includes donated toys and gifts for children up to 18 years old. The event, which is free for anyone to attend, will take place from 3-8 p.m. at East High School, located at 1500 E. Broad St. in Columbus. Sponsored by The Center for Cancer Health Equity at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James), and presented in partnership with numerous community organizations, the event is a celebration of community and support. In addition to free holiday food baskets and the holiday gift shop, the event will include: Health Education: OSUCCC – James faculty and staff will give educational talks on what people need to know about breast cancer, human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and HPV-related cancers. Blood Drive: Versati will also be hosting a blood drive on-site for anyone interested and able to donate blood this holiday season. Appointments are preferred and can be made by calling 1-866-642-5663. Winter attire drive: Volunteers will be on-site to accept donations of coats, hats, gloves, blankets and socks for people experiencing homelessness. These donations will be distributed at homeless camps and through the Van Buren shelter the week of Dec. 19 by community volunteers. Donations of non-perishable food items and toys/gifts for children in support of the Holiday Healthy Family Fun Day can still be made through Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 1590 N.
