Solove Research Institute COLUMBUS, Ohio – Neuro-oncology experts Dr. E. Antonia Chiocca and Balveen Kaur, both researchers at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC-James), are available for outside comment on research presented during the 2010 Society of Neuro-Oncology Annual Scientific Meeting held in Montreal Nov. 18-21. Chiocca is chair of the department of neurological surgery at The Ohio State University Medical Center and a member of the board of directors for the Society of Neuro-Oncology. Along with his team of researchers, he is investigating the use of biologic therapies and gene delivery methods to treat brain tumors and other central nervous system disorders. With a five-year, $5.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, he is working to develop a more potent oncolytic virus as a treatment for brain cancer. Kaur, who is a researcher with Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Dardinger Laboratory for Neuro-oncology and Neurosciences at Ohio State, is studying oncolytic viral therapies for brain tumors. Kaur and her team of researchers have created several novel oncoloytic viruses and are currently investigating their anti-tumor efficacy in preclinical models.
