GROVE CITY (November 23, 2021) – Mount Carmel Health System today announced plans to further strengthen its oncology program at Mount Carmel Grove City through an affiliation with The James Cancer Network at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute’s (OSUCCC – James), effective Jan. 1, 2022.

Together with The James Cancer Network, Mount Carmel physicians and clinicians will have access to additional research, quality improvement programs and tumor boards that will expand the health system’s existing capabilities for cancer care. Mount Carmel Grove City’s state-of-the-art Cancer Center has become known for its exceptional patient care; now, the center will offer medical oncology services to further advance its impact and care experience. In addition to the radiation oncology and cancer services already provided by Mount Carmel, we will now offer medical oncology through The James Cancer Network in our Cancer Center, which enhances the continuum of care for patients and makes it easier for patients to receive convenient, high-quality cancer care in their community.

“The James is a well-established and highly respected cancer research and cancer care provider for patients not only in central Ohio, but across the world,” said Lorraine Lutton, president and CEO at Mount Carmel Health System. “As caregivers, it brings us great pride to be able to provide world-renowned cancer care in Grove City and to areas where there is tremendous demand for this type of highly specialized care. This collaboration is a monumental step towards that accessibility.”

Bringing the expertise of The James Cancer Network to Mount Carmel Grove City enables patients to have coordinated access to cancer subspecialists and clinical research, expands the scope and services of the oncology program at Mount Carmel and ensures the community can receive cancer care in Grove City minimizing the need for travel and discomfort.

“Expanding access to high-quality, subspecialized cancer care and clinical trials while minimizing the travel burden for patients and families is a priority at the OSUCCC – James,” says James CEO William B. Farrar, MD. “Through this affiliation with Mount Carmel Grove City, patients in our community will have expanded access to some of the most innovative and research-based medical oncology services available anywhere in the nation. This new affiliation enables us to reach more cancer patients while extending our shared vision of creating a cancer-free world.”

Currently, Mount Carmel’s Cancer Center in Grove City offers diagnostic services and integrated, multidisciplinary care for all types of cancers, performing more than 35,000 outpatient treatments, 3,500 inpatient treatments and 2,600 cancer surgeries each year.
