COLUMBUS, Ohio – Seven prominent business leaders have been appointed as public members of the James Cancer Hospital Board. New public board members include: Robert J. Massie is chair of The James board and has been President of Columbus-based Chemical Abstracts Service, a division of the American Chemical Society, since 1992. CAS is the global leader in chemical information, offering indispensable research tools to pharmaceutical, chemical and life science companies, as well as universities and patent offices around the world. Richard Butera, is a developer and philanthropist in Aspen, Colo. R. Guy Cole, Jr. is one of 16 judges on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, which hears appeals from federal district courts in Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky and Michigan. Previously, he served on the federal bench as a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of Ohio, and prior to joining the Sixth Circuit, he was a partner at the Columbus-based law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease. Sander Flaum is chief executive officer of Flaum Partners based in New York, a consultancy of strategic leaders focused on transformational thinking for the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Before that, Flaum was chairman and CEO of Robert A. Becker, Euro RSCG. Medical Advertising News named Becker its Agency of the Year in 2002, and he was named its Man of the Year that same year. Barbara Kunz is president of Battelle's Health and Life Sciences Global Business. In 2007, she joined Battelle from Fisher Scientific International, where she held the position of senior vice president and general manager for Fisher Biosciences. Previously, she held business management roles in DuPont, ICI, and PPG Industries, and also served as a research scientist for eight years. Jordan A. Miller Jr. is president of Fifth Third Bank in Central Ohio where he continues to build on more than 30 years of financial services experience. Previously, he served as senior vice president and manager of Fifth Third Investment Advisors for the bank’s Cincinnati affiliate. Before joining Fifth Third Bank, Miller was chief financial officer and business manager for Huntington Investment Company in Columbus. Alec Wightman is a partner with Baker Hostetler. His law practice covers a wide range of business and business-related areas, with substantial experience in the healthcare industry. He represents privately held and public companies, including a leading provider of products and services supporting the healthcare industry. Wightman has been named in The Best Lawyers in America since 1997. The selection criteria for board members ensures that the membership will include people with business and legal expertise, along with knowledge of healthcare delivery and the mission of the university’s academic medical center. The James Cancer Hospital Board, which includes nine public members and six ex-officio members, is a specialized board established by The Ohio State University Board of Trustees for the oversight of strategic initiatives, patient care services and financial performance of the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. Returning public board members include Jonathan Eesley, vice president and financial advisor for Bernstein Global Wealth Management; and Edward Razek, president and chief marketing officer, Brand & Creative Services, for Limited Brands.
