COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) announces the following awards, honors, grants and more that were recently given to the organization, teams or individuals:   OSUCCC – James Pelotonia Scholars Program awards funding to 22 student cancer researchers The Pelotonia Scholars Program recently awarded 22 scholarships that will enable Ohio State students in various disciplines and levels of study to conduct cancer research in the labs of faculty mentors at the OSUCCC – James.  The awardees in the spring 2025 funding cycle include 13 undergraduate scholars, six graduate scholars, one medical student scholar and two postdoctoral scholars. The scholars are from the United States and six other countries (Canada, Mexico, Spain, Nigeria, India and Pakistan). The OSUCCC – James annually allocates $2 million to the Pelotonia Scholars Program, which since 2010 has awarded 734 scholarships to 329 undergraduates, 228 graduates, 15 medical students and 162 postdoctoral fellows. The scholarship recipients represent 53 countries and 36 U.S. states. Sen is new member of global lung cancer network board of directors  Triparna Sen, PhD, professor in the Division of Medical Oncology, where she also serves as associate director of research and director of the Lung Cancer Preclinical Therapeutics Platform, was inducted into the Board of Directors of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), the leading global authority on thoracic cancers. Dr. Sen, who also in the Translational Therapeutics Program at the OSUCCC – James, is an internationally recognized leader in small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) and tumor plasticity. Her research focuses on understanding and therapeutically targeting mechanisms of therapy resistance and lineage plasticity in lung cancer, with a primary emphasis on SCLC and biologically aggressive subsets of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). OSUCCC – James Cancer Registry team earns OCISS Gold Award The Cancer Registry team at the OSUCCC – James has received the Ohio Cancer Incidence Surveillance System (OCISS) Gold Award for timely submission of cancer incidence data. The OCISS collects and analyzes cancer incidence data on all Ohio residents. Cancer incidence is defined as newly diagnosed cases. Ohio providers of medical care are required by law to report to OCISS all cancers diagnosed and/or treated in this state within six months of diagnosis.  The OCISS created its Registry Recognition Program to recognize hospitals that meet timeliness goals. To earn a Gold Award, reporting of cancer cases diagnosed in 2024 had to be at least 90% complete as of Sept. 1, 2025. Ohio’s cancer incidence data are widely used by public health professionals, medical researchers and cancer organizations to develop, implement and promote cancer prevention and control activities in Ohio, and to support cancer-related research. OSUCCC – James listed among 100+ hospitals and health systems with great oncology programs Becker's Hospital Review, a medical industry trade magazine that offers news and insights for hospital and healthcare system executives, included the OSUCCC – James on its 2025 list of 100+ hospitals and health systems recognized for excellence in oncology.  The magazine says these leading institutions have earned national distinction for advancing cancer care through groundbreaking research, innovative treatments and transformative clinical trials. It also notes that many of the cancer programs featured, including the OSUCCC – James, hold prestigious National Cancer Institute designations and consistently rank among the nation’s top cancer care providers, as recognized by U.S. News & World Report and other respected ranking organizations.  Nationwide Children’s Hospital named to ‘Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll’ Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and the Ohio State College of Medicine and OSUCCC – James faculty at Nationwide Children's Hospital, have once again been named to U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll. This marks the 12th consecutive appearance on this list of the country’s 10 best children’s hospitals. Nationwide Children’s also is ranked among the top 10 in seven of the 10 specialties, with four specialties ranked in the top five, including cancer at No. 5.
