COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC-James) will hold the 13th annual scientific meeting at 8 a.m. Feb. 18 in The Ohio Union on the campus of The Ohio State University. The event will include presentations from keynote speakers outside Ohio State as well as from members of Ohio State’s cancer program. Invited speakers include: Polly A. Newcomb, Ph. D., head cancer prevention program research professor at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, will speak on the risk factors of breast cancer. Dr. Hope S. Rugo, clinical professor of medicine at University of California, will discuss the biology of breast cancer. Dr. William E. Carson, associate director for clinical research at OSUCCC-James, will provide a clinical trials update. Dr. James A. Fagin, chief of endocrine services at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, will present, “Addicted to RAF: New insights into thyroid cancer pathogenesis and its therapeutic targets.” Dr. Larry Maxwell, director of the Gynecological Disease Center at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and director of gynecologic surgical services for the National Cancer Institute will discuss, “Personalized Care in the Management of Endometrial Cancer.” Concluding the event will be Dr. Michael Caligiuri, director of the OSUCCC and CEO of the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, who will discuss, “Celebration of “12” (Exceptional Rating for Cancer Center Support Grant).” A poster review covering the seven programs of cancer research and shared resources, along with the second annual Art of Cancer Research competition and annual awards will also be featured.
