COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Dr. Michael D. Lairmore (43212) of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center?Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute and a veterinarian in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Ohio State, has been elected president of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. The American College of Veterinary Pathologists has more than 1,500 members in 17 countries. The mission of the organization is to foster excellence in veterinary pathology to protect and improve animal, human, and environmental health to benefit society. Lairmore will be responsible for helping implement the organization?s strategic plan. At Ohio State, Lairmore chairs the department of veterinary biosciences and is associate director for basic sciences at the Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center. He holds a joint appointment in microbiology and immunology.His clinical research includes veterinary medicine, retrovirology and pathobiology. Lairmore has contributed more than 170 peer-reviewed publications and is an associate editor for Retrovirology. In 2004, Lairmore received the Distinguished Scholar Award from Ohio State.
