COLUMBUS, Ohio – Susan Tsai, MD, has been named the chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James). She will start on Nov. 1 as a professor of surgery with the College of Medicine. Tsai is currently an endowed professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology at the Medical College of Wisconsin and is a recognized leader in gastrointestinal oncology with a concentration on pancreatic cancer. She is a National Institutes of Health-funded researcher whose work focuses on blood-based biomarkers and precision medicine clinical trials in pancreatic cancer.  “Dr. Tsai embodies the qualities of a strong leader with recognized accomplishments in the areas of clinical care, scholarship, research and academic teaching. Her contributions to surgical oncology and her track record as a national leader make her an excellent fit for our division. I could not be happier to welcome her to Ohio State,” said Timothy Pawlik, MD, PhD, and chair of the Department of Surgery.   Tsai currently serves as president of the Society of Asian Academic Surgeons, is active in the American Surgical Association and Society of Clinical Surgeons and she serves on the editorial boards of several major scientific journals and multiple national committees. She has published more than 130 peer-reviewed scientific articles and 17 book chapters.   After receiving her BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tsai completed her medical degree and general surgical residency at the University of Michigan. During residency, she completed a clinical research fellowship at the Surgery Branch of the National Cancer Institute.
