Policy Advocacy

The OSUCCC – James Government Affairs, External Relations and Advocacy Department closely and continuously monitors local, state, regional and national legislative and regulatory matters that can impact the mission and operations at the OSUCCC – James, especially in the areas of patient care, education and research.

Additionally, the Department:

  • Serves as a resource to faculty, staff, students and alumni who are interested in how governmental functions (at all levels) impact the OSUCCC – James
  • Facilitates the development, implementation and advocacy of Ohio State’s public policy agenda
  • Collaborates with colleagues, government officials and key external constituencies to identify, anticipate and manage public policy issues that can impact the success and mission of the OSUCCC – James;
  • Fosters strong and lasting working relationships among the community as well as with public officials and others active in the public arena;
  • Delivers timely and relevant information about Ohio State and the OSUCCC – James to key public audiences;
  • Informs internal and external audiences and stakeholders about developments and issues affecting the policy-making environment;
  • Reinforces the OSUCCC – James’ pioneering and leadership role in overall public policy debate in the fields of cancer research and care;
  • Assists policy makers with improving the economic, educational, social and health standards of the community, state, region and nation.

The Department also issues policy and global statements involving critical cancer research, education, treatment and care issues, creating a culture of active commitment while also highlighting important issues that could impact how the nationally and internationally recognized OSUCCC – James experts manage patient care and conduct cutting-edge research to create a cancer-free world.
