Global Health

Working globally to create a cancer-free world.

Global Health

World renowned physician scientists at the OSUCCC – James work collaboratively well beyond our national borders to improve health strategies and advance cancer treatments and cures. Working together, our nationally and internationally recognized experts reach across many disciplines working locally, nationally and globally to share knowledge, expertise and world-class skills that strive to meet the diverse needs of the global community.

For research and scientific specialists at the OSUCCC – James, an inspired vision to improve global health became a system-wide mission. Today, faculty and staff throughout The Ohio State University, The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, and The OSU Wexner Medical Center have joined in a comprehensive global outreach effort that fosters meaningful and beneficial partnerships, provides national and international access pathways to share knowledge and expertise, and uncovers innovative and novel solutions to the world’s most compelling health and wellness issues.

Global One Health Initiative

The Global One Health initiative (GOHi) is The Ohio State University’s largest interdisciplinary program operating on a global scale. Founded in 2009, GOHi actively serves those in need across the United States, Eastern Africa, Central and South America, and Asia.

The goal? To connect and share medical expertise with others in low- and middle-income countries using a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to improve health, build capacity and provide learning opportunities for scientists, physicians, researchers and students across the globe.

Global Lung Cancer Research and Treatment Initiative

As of 2018, lung cancer remained the most frequent cause of cancer death worldwide. While there have been significant strides in the prevention and treatment of lung diseases and cancers, there is still tremendous need to disseminate these discoveries, as well as new ones, on a worldwide scale to benefit all patients with lung cancer, regardless of country or resources.

The Global Lung Cancer Research and Treatment Initiative (GLCRTI), led by internationally recognized lung cancer expert David Carbone, MD, PhD, takes aim at bridging the divide in lung cancer information and treatment availability through a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary, global network that gives the OSUCCC – James research specialists and their counterparts around the world an information pipeline with which to share discoveries, explore novel treatment approaches and develop advanced disease management techniques.
