Meeting the spiritual and emotional needs of patients, family members and staff in trying time.
Because We Care
We understand that a serious medical diagnosis often evokes a range of feelings and raises questions about meaning, purpose and faith. The James provides specially trained chaplains who are part of the healthcare team. Our chaplains understand the spiritual and emotional concerns that are unique to your cancer diagnosis and are available to help meet the needs of patients, family members and staff of all faiths, as well as those who are spiritual but not religious. Chaplains are available throughout The James, both in the hospital and in ambulatory clinics.
Our Chaplains offer:
- A listening ear
- Compassionate emotional support
- Spiritual care for all faith traditions
- Prayer and other religious rituals
- Spiritual conversation
You are welcome to visit the Pauline and Leonard Schnipke Sanctuary (also known as the Chapel), which is located on the first floor of The James Cancer Hospital at the top of the grand staircase. This quiet place is available to all people for personal reflection, meditation and prayer. Spiritual resources and reading materials are also provided.
