The community outreach and engagement (COE) team is focused on reducing the cancer burden in Ohio. Our leadership includes:

We have multiple staff representing all community populations, including African American, Hispanic, rural, Appalachian, Somali/new immigrants and LGBTQ+, as well as patient navigators.

This team coordinates and assists OSUCCC – James researchers and clinicians in setting priorities and addressing the Ohio cancer burden, including expanding reach beyond the state.

Our focus is to identify cancer problems and then design/test ways to reduce the cancer burden. They include:

  1. Describe and monitor the catchment area in terms of population characteristics and the cancer burden
  2. Engage the catchment area communities in outreach and engagement activities
  3. Foster research inside and outside of catchment area
  4. Assist in the development of policy that has impact locally, nationally and internationally

The OSUCCC – James community outreach team has multiple community partners throughout Ohio to help provide cancer education, screenings and additional resources as needed. These partners include:

Electra Paskett

 

Dr. Paskett is the director of the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control. She became the Marion N. Rowley Professor of Cancer Research at The Ohio State University in 2002. Dr. Paskett is a professor in the Division of Epidemiology in the College of Public Health and the associate director for Population Sciences. She is also director of the Center for Cancer Health Equity at The James.
