Ashish Kumar, MD, PhD, is a member of the Molecular Biology and Cancer Genetics Program at the OSUCCC – James, and is based at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. His research focuses on blood cancers of childhood, specifically infant leukemia, and Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH).In particular, he is studying experimental models of MLL-rearranged leukemia to identify biological pathways that are dysregulated in leukemic cells. Through his research, Dr. Kumar has helped identify several genes that are abnormally upregulated in hematopoietic cells, which are also upregulated in human leukemia cells. Separately, he has identified and characterized novel mutations associated with LCH. These discoveries have led to novel treatments for patients with LCH. He has co-authored many articles in well-respected publications, including Blood, Journal of Clinical Immunology, Cell Stem Cell and Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation.
