Dr. Sarkar's research primarily focuses on the investigation of the role of endogenous neuromediators in modulating the microenvironment during metastatic cancer progression. Her primary research focus is to dissect the role played by the endogenous neuroimmune modulators (neurohormones and neuropeptides) in regulating the endothelial cells. Dr. Sarlar is interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms that modify the tumor microenvironment thereby leading to tumor progression and recurrence and using this knowledge to develop novel treatment strategies. Currently her lab is studying the role of Neuropeptide Y in promoting angiogenesis and hence growth and progression of colon cancer.
