Edward Martin Jr., MD, is a professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology at Ohio State and a member of the Translational Therapeutics Program at the OSUCCC – James.

In one of his recent projects, he helped create a mathematical model that involves genes whose mutations affect chronic inflammation of the colon. Chronic inflammation can pose a risk of colon cancer for patients with ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease. The model could serve as a conceptual framework for further study of early-stage colon cancer.

Dr. Martin has co-authored many articles in well-respected publications, including Journal of the American College of Surgeons, BMC Cancer, Journal of Physical Chemistry B and BioMed Research International.
