Fred Tabung, PhD, MSPH, is an assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Ohio State and a member of the Molecular Carcinogenesis and Chemoprevention Program at the OSUCCC – James, where his research focuses on the role of diet and lifestyle in cancer risk and survival, specifically among patients with gastrointestinal cancers.

He is interested in integrating novel dietary patterns, biomarkers (of inflammation and insulin response), and metabolomics and microbiome data to comprehensively investigate and identify potential biological pathways linking dietary patterns and cancer outcomes. The major goal is to identify novel biomarkers for cancer prevention and control.

Before joining Ohio State, Dr. Tabung received a five-year research grant from the National Cancer Institute to study pro-inflammatory and hyper-insulinemic dietary patterns and their relation to colorectal cancer risk.

Dr. Tabung has co-authored many articles in peer-reviewed publications such as JAMA Oncology, American Journal of Epidemiology, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, International Journal of Cancer and Gastroenterology.
