Cancer Control

I am interested in primary and secondary prevention of cancer. As a communication researcher, I’m interested in message effects on diverse audiences, media effects on risk perceptions and behaviors, potentials of new media for health promotion, and ways of integrating message and media strategies for effective intervention design and delivery. My work has focused on skin cancer (sun safety and indoor tanning) prevention. For this I have worked with FFA (Future Farmers of America)-member rural Indiana high school students and their teachers and administrators, and sorority member college women in five states of the Midwest. I am interested in prevention of other cancers and survivorship as well.
