The focus of Dr. Zhang's research is to study the DDR and to investigate how DDR can be exploited for personalized medicine.

The DNA damage can be caused indirectly or directly by ionizing radiation (IR), replication stress-generating chemotherapeutic drugs, targeted therapy agents and oncogene expression/activation. DNA damage response (DDR) is a major mechanism antagonizing DNA damage and involving cell cycle checkpoints and DNA damage repair.
