K. John McLaughlin, PhD, is a member of the Molecular Biology and Cancer Genetics Program at the OSUCCC – James, where his research focuses on epigenetics, stem cells and therapeutic transplant models.

Specifically, he uses mouse transplant models in which imprinted genes’ expression is abnormal to help him and his colleagues better understand the role of parent-of-origin epigenetics in adults.

In addition, Dr. McLaughlin’s laboratory investigates epigenomics, or more specifically, the role of the mitochondrial genome in the cell. The laboratory is currently developing methods to manipulate and study the mitochondrial “epigenome.”

Dr. McLaughlin has co-authored numerous articles in well-respected publications, including Molecular Medicine, PLOS ONE and Cell Cycle.
