Michael Slater, PhD, MPA, is a member of the Cancer Control Program at the OSUCCC – James, where he focuses on communication research. In particular, he investigates media coverage and cancer, as well as persuasion and media effects.

One of Dr. Slater’s recent studies evaluated campaigns to improve colorectal cancer screening in 12 Appalachian Ohio counties. His findings indicate that partnering with the community in campaign material development is critical for cultural competency.

Dr. Slater has co-authored many articles in well-respected publications, including Health Promotion Practice, Progress in Community Health Partnerships, BioMed Research International and Journal of Health Communication.
