As technical director of the Genomics Shared Resource at the OSUCCC – James, Pearlly Yan, PhD, oversees procurement, setup and management of the Illumina Core lab. Illumina is an avant-garde company that funds studies that apply innovative technologies to the analysis of genetic variation and function. Dr. Yan works with James researchers and principal investigators to develop novel ways to use Illumina HiSeq 2500 for integrating a specific region of genome interest.

In her career, Dr. Yan has established collaborations with diverse disciplines to answer key questions on next-generation sequencing data. As deputy director of The Ohio State University’s NCI-Integrative Biology Program, she brought together experts – including cancer researchers, mathematicians, physicists, information technologists and others – to answer key cancer biology questions.

Taking a cross-disciplinary approach to her work, Dr. Yan is a member of both the internationally renowned center for hematologic malignancy treatment and the highly collaborative Leukemia Research Program at The James.

Dr. Yan has co-authored more than 100 articles in such publications as Cell Research, Clinical Epigenetics, Blood, Journal of Clinical Oncology and Science. She has also presented in academic classrooms, conferences and organizations around the world, including the American Association of Cancer Research, Wound Healing Society and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
