Ramiro Garzon, MD, is a professor in the Division of Hematology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He also serves as co-leader of the Leukemia Research Program at the OSUCCC – James.

As a medical oncologist who specializes in treating patients with hematologic malignancies – particularly adult T-cell leukemia-lymphoma and chronic B-cell lymphocytic leukemia – Dr. Garzon focuses his research on understanding the molecular mechanisms of these cancers and on devising therapies to better treat them.

His laboratory is interested in discovering the role of non-coding RNAs in normal blood formation and how these RNAs may cooperate with other protein-coding genes during leukemogenesis. As a lead researcher in this area of study, he has led or been a co-investigator in numerous clinical trials to discover more effective leukemia therapies.

Dr. Garzon's work has been published in several medical journals, including British Journal of Cancer, Clinical Cancer Research, Leukemia and Lymphoma, Molecular Cell Biology, Journal of Biological Chemistry and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. He has been an invited abstract reviewer and oral session moderator for the American Society of Hematology (ASH) annual meeting, and he has been invited to review research grant proposals for many national and international organizations. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the European Hematology Association.
