Questions regarding the importance of nutrition and its relationship with cancer are commonly encountered in the oncology clinic. I have always taken a special interest in understanding the impact of nutritional status as a modifiable risk factor in various cancers. I am conducting novel research studying the relationships between specific cancers and dietary factors. I am also utilizing metabolomic technologies to identify novel biomarkers that will predict response to various dietary and lifestyle interventions. These nutrition-related markers may also have prognostic and/or predictive ability with respect to other clinically relevant outcomes such as treatment related side effects and effectiveness.
