As part of an NSF funded project, Dr. Ghadiali uses engineering, biophysical and molecular/cell biology techniques to identify how biomechanical properties of both cancer cells and the tumor microenvironment (TME) influence oncogenic epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT). Dr. Ghadiali also collaborates with Dr. Michael Ostrowski’s lab to investigate how remodeling of the extracellular matrix by stromal fibroblasts in the TME influences cancer cell invasion. He is using targeted gene silencing and biomechanical manipulation techniques to both mitigate breast cancer cell invasion/metastasis and to overcome EGFR TKI resistance in lung cancer cells.
