Cancer Control

Dr. Strassel's research is focused on understanding the clinical, economic, and patient-reported outcomes related to pain and symptom management. Optimal care for people with pain and related symptoms is important because pain is often suboptimally treated and has significant consequences including increased costs and medical resource use, slower return to functioning, and decreased quality of life. Understanding how to best care for individuals with pain is also complicated by socioeconomic events, such as the current opioid crisis. These issues are likely to become more pronounced as the baby boomers continue to age, and as people live longer with chronic illnesses, including cancer.
