Susanne I Wells, PhD
College of Medicine - UC
Susanne Wells, PhD, is a member of the Translational Therapeutics Program at the OSUCCC – James, where her research focuses on understanding human papillomavirus (HPV)-related and unrelated squamous cell carcinoma to develop new approaches to diagnose and treat HPV as a cause of cancer.
In particular, she explores the mechanisms by which HPV oncogenes subvert host-cell machinery to promote abnormal cell growth and seeks to understand the role of cellular HPV targets in viral replication and cellular transformation.
One of her recent studies indicates that pluripotent stem cells have hyperactive CHK1 signaling, which restricts self-renewal in the absence of error-free DNA repair.
Dr. Wells has co-authored many articles in well-known publications, including Clinical Cancer Research, Stem Cell Reports, Cell Cycle and Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.
