Timothy Pawlik, MD, PhD, MPH, is professor and chair of the Department of Surgery in The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He also holds the Urban Meyer III and Shelley Meyer Chair for Cancer Research and is a member of the Cancer Control Program at the OSUCCC – James.

Before being recruited to Ohio State in 2016, Dr. Pawlik had amassed more than 10 years of surgical and research experience at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he honed his skills in treating patients with liver, gallbladder, pancreatic and neuroendocrine tumors while conducting groundbreaking research. He also served as chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology and as director of the Liver Tumor Center at Johns Hopkins, among other roles.

Through his research, Dr. Pawlik seeks a more complete understanding of factors associated with prognosis and staging around gastrointestinal cancers. He also studies patient/physician communication and patient engagement, as well as patient perception of cancer-care goals.

Dr. Pawlik has authored or co-authored more than 700 articles in leading scientific journals, has written over 50 book chapters and has edited five surgical textbooks. He has won multiple awards, including Top Doctors honors from Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report and Castle Connolly Medical Ltd.
