SPORE Grants

Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) grants are highly prestigious research grants awarded by the NCI through its Translational Research Program. SPORE grants promote collaborative, interdisciplinary translational cancer research.

SPORE grants:

  • Focus on a specific organ site or on a group of closely related cancers
  • Rapidly apply basic science findings to the clinic
  • Determine the biological basis for observations made in individual patients or in populations at risk for cancer
  • Must reach a human end-point within the five-year funding period
