Pelotonia season is officially underway with registration now open for the annual cycling event that supports Ohio State’s cancer research. Through 15 years, the Pelotonia community has come together to raise hundreds of millions of dollars for research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. “Over the first 15 years, we've built just such a groundswell of support all over the country really and beyond,” new Pelotonia CEO Joe Apgar says. “We capitalize on that and just continue to grow our mission and grow the impact on cancer research at The James.” Click here to register for Pelotonia 2024 as a rider, Challenger or volunteer. Since the first ride weekend, Pelotonia has grown to include a Challengers fundraising option — in which participants choose their own activities to support the organization’s mission of ending cancer — and starting in 2023, the new Gravel Day event. “September 28 is the second gravel day,” Apgar says. “It's going to be down in Nelsonville. Ohio again.” The traditional ride weekend takes place August 2-4 at starting and finishing lines throughout the area (along with that weekend’s opening ceremony in Columbus). While riders and challengers are working on paths, roads and elsewhere throughout the season, Pelotonia’s large team of volunteers will be doing all they can to make sure the events are successful again, more than a decade and a half since the organization’s founding. “It's a bike ride, but I've always said if you're not sure how you want to get into the Pelotonia experience, come volunteer on the weekend and see what it's all about,” Apgar says.
