Selvendiran Karuppaiyah, PhD, is a member of the Translational Therapeutics Program at the OSUCCC – James, where his research focuses primarily on drug-resistant ovarian cancer and ovarian cancer therapeutics.
Dr. Karuppaiyah’s current research includes identifying the release and oncogenic protein content of exosomes in ovarian cancer, the mechanism of hypoxia-facilitated exosome release in ovarian cancer and whether the constitutive activation of STAT3 is a contributing factor.
He is also interested in evaluating the proteome profiling of exosomes in ovarian cancer, where he has found that tumor exosomes carry a unique set of oncogenic proteins not found in the normal ovarian epithelial cell’s exosomes. Identification of an exosomal protein signature unique to ovarian cancer has the potential to serve as a biomarker for early detection of the disease and as a prognostic marker.
Dr. Karuppaiyah has co-authored numerous articles in well-known publications, including Gynecologic Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research and Molecular Cancer Research.>
