The Baiocchi Lab

The Baiocchi Lab research scientists' mission and long-term goal is to help discover new insights into disease risk factors and to find ways to mitigate these risks so patients can eventually access new forms of treatment.

The Baiocchi Lab team at the OSUCCC – James, led by cancer research specialist and Principal Investigator Robert Baiocchi, MD, PhD, focuses on developing groundbreaking treatments for lymphoma via the latest technology, including CAR T-cell therapy and targeted therapies, by studying viral-driven lymphomas and other immune disorders caused by viruses.

At the forefront of cancer research, the Baiocchi Lab is dedicated to unraveling the complexities of lymphoma, a diverse group of blood cancers that affect lymphatic tissue. This team of research experts combines cutting-edge genomics, proteomics and immunotherapy studies to explore the underlying mechanisms of lymphoma development and progression.

Additionally, their research includes looking at variations in oncogenic viral genomes (EBV, KSHV) across the globe to determine if there are any significant differences that may affect individual risk factors of developing disease.

Collaborating closely with clinical teams, these nationally and internationally recognized scientists translate their findings into potential therapies with the goal of improving patient outcomes.

Mission

The nationally and internationally recognized research experts in the Baiocchi Lab make it their mission to help discover new insights into disease risk factors and to find ways to mitigate these risks so patients can eventually access new forms of treatment.

Their work also focuses on ways to reduce the risk of lymphoma for solid organ transplant patients.

Who we are

Under the direction of Principal Investigator Robert Baiocchi, MD, PhD, the Baiocchi Lab research experts employ rigorous experimentation and innovative approaches, striving to identify new biomarkers and treatment targets as well as elucidate the underlying mechanisms of viral-driven lymphomas across diverse population groups.
