It’s an exciting time to join the world-renowned OSUCCC – James with the recent opening of its first outpatient surgery facility and the first proton therapy center in Columbus, Ohio.
Besides these two leading-edge services, the new James Outpatient Care, located in the Carmenton innovation district also houses traditional radiation services as well as various clinics related to hematology, genitourinary malignancies and other types of cancer, giving our team members a chance to broaden their ability to positively impact the lives of those with this disease.
Members of our team provide the same high-quality and life-saving oncology care people have grown to expect from the OSUCCC – James but now provide it comprehensively in one convenient location.

Be a part of the region’s first proton therapy center
A key need for this new location is making sure we have quality staff to manage our proton therapy center, which has its own $100 million, 55,000-square-foot wing in the outpatient facility. We’ve collaborated with Nationwide Children’s Hospital on this advanced radiation oncology project.
We are the first hospital in central Ohio to offer this innovative treatment, which allows us to deliver potent and precise radiation with minimal side effects, and we need the region’s top experts to help us run it. Joining The James team now allows you to pave the way for proton therapy advancement in Ohio. Three specific careers we have available include clinical physicists, radiation therapists and medical dosimetrists.
Radiation physicist
The radiation physicist in radiation oncology is responsible for the specification and acquisition of all radiation-generating equipment as well as the calibration and maintenance of other treatment machines. They’ll collaborate with medical providers in the design, oversight and modification of effective radiation treatment plans for patients.
Requirements include a Master of Science degree with a math and physics concentration, preferably in Medical Physics, as well as residency training in therapeutic physics from an accredited residency program, and at least two years of clinical experience.
Radiation therapist
The radiation therapist performs radiation therapy and imaging procedures involving the application of X-rays and radioactive substances to patients for simulation and treatment for malignancies and pain. They’re responsible for the accurate delivery of the prescribed course of radiation therapy to patients in the Department of Radiation Oncology.
Medical dosimetrist
The medical dosimetrist will participate in the planning team will measure, generate and calculate radiation dose distributions. They’ll be thoroughly familiar with geometric characteristics of radiation equipment, radioactive sources commonly employed, and have the training and expertise necessary to provide the radiation dose details under the direction of the radiation physicist.
Digital pathology careers expand at the OSUCCC – James
The new James Outpatient Care will also expand our digital pathology program, allowing radiologists and oncologists to see patients’ images in real time. The technology promises faster, more accurate patient diagnoses, along with many other services, and we’ll need experts to help propel this advancing program.
