Medical Oncology: Beth Christian, MD and Edmund Folefac, MBChB

About the Program

Through an ACGME Advancing Innovation in Residency Education (AIRE) program coordinated by the American Society of Clinical Oncology, we are offering a unique combined fellowship in Medical Oncology and Palliative Medicine. This fellowship is a two-year training program which offers trainees dual board-eligibility in oncology and palliative medicine in accordance with the American Board of Internal Medicine standards. The program offers intensive clinical training and protected research time.

Goals

The goal of this combined program is to foster the development of oncologists who want to be experts in both palliative and cancer care. By identifying clinical rotations where both oncology and palliative medicine competencies can be learned and integrating the educational training in the two specialties, the time commitment required for consecutive training in currently accredited training programs is reduced by 1 year.

Application Process

Eligibility criteria for application to the program include the following:
  • MD or DO
  • Hold U.S. citizenship, permanent residency or current ECFMG certificate
  • Completed three years of U.S. internal medicine residency or combined medicine/pediatric residency training that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

The application will be accessible through the Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship Program in a designated separate track, Oncology and Palliative Medicine.
